If you are looking for ways to personalise your family home? I have some great ideas here for you today. Doing them all may a bit too much, but why not have a read and pick one or two that might just work for you.
Making your home feel uniquely yours and reflection of who you are doesn’t have to involve a complete overhaul or spending a small fortune. Personal touches can transform any space into a reflection of your family’s personality, interests, and memories.
Here are 7 cool, inexpensive, fun and practical ways to personalise your family home.
Wall murals
Your walls are the perfect large showcase for something meaningful
A wall mural is a bold and beautiful way to showcase your family’s favourite’s from naturescapes to plants, wild animals to mountain views, a huge wall mural speaks of who you are in a grand way. You could invest on one of these great wall murals for your home or, if you’re feeling super adventurous, perhaps you could go really bespoke and involve the whole family in painting one yourself! (I have to say that for me peel-and-stick mural wallpapers are a much more hassle-free option)
A mural instantly adds charm and character to a room or hallway and makes a bold statement about the people who live there.
Photo Gallery
A photo gallery couldn’t really be any more unique, showing the people and places that matter to you and touch your heart. Try taking a look here for a free gallery wall generator that will help you set up your photos just so.
Handmade Items
Did your grandma make you blanket or your kid a pottery vase? Did your BFF make you candle or your partner carve you a wooden heart out of some errant wood? These handmade gifts may feel like disparate items but they are infused with care.
Bring your home to life with handmade items that were created just for you and you will be surrounded by love.
Heirlooms
Homes are a great place to display heirlooms – really what could be more personal? In my home I o have old wooden clock my granddad received for 40 years of service on the railways and a musical card table that was my grandmas gorgeous very personal treasures,
Upcycling
A project you have worked on your self totally deserves pride of place in your personalised home, have you painted a sideboard, renovated a wardrobe, turn an old oil drum in to a planter – then show it off with pride! It is, if nothing else, a great conversation starter.
Travel Tales
My son has a shelf in his bedroom with a little treasure from each of his trips abroad. This is a lovely way for him to remember his amazing adventures and a great way to make his space uniquely his. Travel souvenirs don’t have to be cheesy, instead they can be considered and beautiful. Your experiences in life are the real treasures and it is great to be reminded of them regularly.
Childhood Memories
I like to keep some of the items from my past in full view. A knitted blanket I had a child lies on a chair in my bedroom, Christmas decs from my own childhood, that were once my grandma’s, still adorn our tree each year.
These infuse me with a sense of history and bring great comfort and joy to my present.
Sure it’s not appropriate, stylish or practical to keep every souvenir from your past on display but if something is especially meaningful or lovely then it is a great idea to keep it near, to totally personalise your home.
Your home is yours and it is wonderful to reflect that in your design and decor.
