Visiting Rome with a Family

I long to go back to Rome with my family. I first visited about 20 years ago with my aunt for 3 magical days exploring the city . We walked for miles and miles and say all the major tourist sites and at all the pizza and all the gelato.

Gosh it was heaven – sunny, buzzing, culturally mind blowing and I was just in awe of this historically steeped amazing city (with the most excellent food) I have been checking out ebooking and have found a range of lovely places to stay – perfect for families.

Let me tell you what my highlights were the places I want to revisit with my family.

The Spanish Steps

I juts adored the Spanish Steps (there are 135) and they are an iconic landmark in Rome. Seems to me just about everyone meets there. The Piazza di Spagna at the foot of the steps is named after the Spanish Embassy there, so the name extended to the steps. They are beautiful and the perfect place for a family photo but beware! you cannot eat your lunch there.

I am sure kids would love to run up and down them!

The Colosseum

The Colosseum is exactly what you think it will be but even more impressive in real life.  It is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built and oh what a building! It is very easy to imagine the bloody history of fighting gladiators and lions! So impressive. I think my kids imaginations would be in overdrive here What a piece of history (and of course there are a fair few people dressed as Roman guards everywhere too.)

Visiting Rome with a Family

I love all the squares and cool fountains dotted around Rome and I know my children would love the Trevi fountain and the legend that says if you throw a coin into it it means you will come back to Rome.

It is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and undoubtedly probably the most famous fountains in the world.  It dates from 4th century Rome and makes £3000 a day for charity from the coins thrown in ! How cool is that.

The pizza!

Oh my kids would love, love, love how much fabulous pizza there is to eat in Rome. Food can be tricky when you are exploring somewhere new with a young family but pizza and ice cream well they top most kids favourite food list and the Italians excel at making these.

So I think in all Rome would be an amazing place to take my son and my daughter and I cannot wait to revisit!
