How to make Rose and Lavender Pot Pourri

How to make Rose and Lavender Pot Pourri

I have never made pot pourri before and was worried it was going to be complicated and I would need a lot of stuff but actually it was easy and I didn’t.

rose and lavender pot pourri

Here’s what you will need

10 drops of Rose essential oil

1 cup of dried rose petals form 6 roses

2 tablespoons of Orris root powder

1/2 cup of Dried Lavender

Glass jar with air tight lid

Preparation

I dried my rose petals by leaving them spread out on kitchen towel in sunlight for a week (inside but by a window) Another option is to place it between layers of kitchen towel and zap for 60 seconds or so

The lavender was already dried but again you could just bring it in from outside and hang it up to dry.

 To make

Pop your dried rose petals in a bowl. Add 1/2 a cup of lavender  to a cup or rose petals and 2 tablespoons of orris root powder. Orris root is a natural fixative and will help preserve the flower fragrance.

Give it all a good stir.

Add 8-10 drops of oil.

Stir again!

Put the mixture in a glass jar and store for  a good few days for the fragrance to really permeate, . Give it a good shake every day.

To display

Display in an open top bowl and if you like add extra visual appeal with pinecones, twigs, lovely leaves  and so on.

I personally like small bowls dotted around but the front door and show box and int he bathrom but one big bowl can make a lovely impact too

thats sounds lovely, and yes easier than I would have thought. Love lavender and this would make a nice present in a pretty bowl.

This is truly ingenious, I have never thought about making my own Pot Pourri either as I really do not have a DIY bone in my body but this looks gorgoeous and I want to give it a try.
