There’s nothing like a good family holiday. It’s a chance to get away from your everyday responsibilities, visit a new destination, and spend some time with your loved ones. But it’s not always easy to decide where to go — you need to consider everyone’s needs and preferences.
If you’d like nothing like more than a chilled out break, you’re in luck. We’ve put together a list of five of the best destinations for a relaxed family holiday.
1. The Amalfi Coast, Italy
The Amalfi Coast has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status for its beautiful scenery and natural diversity. It’s ideal if you want to be by the coast but also enjoy spending time in the countryside — you’ll love the stunning coastline and the green fields and vineyards.
Avoid the crowds by staying in one of the smaller, less well-known towns, such as Minori. You’ll be able to see all the sights, but your base will be quieter and more suitable for children.
2. Cornwall, England
Sitting on the south west coast of England, Cornwall is best known for its seaside charm — ideal if you want a traditional British beach holiday, complete with fish and chips, sandcastles and plenty of ice cream. For an extra special treat, why not try a Cornish cream tea with scones and homemade jam?
3. The Cotswolds, England
There’s nothing like the English countryside, and there’s nothing like the countryside in the Cotswolds. Rolling green hills, quaint little villages and interesting historical buildings all combine to create the perfect getaway destination for you and your brood. Holidaysafe also point out that it’s a great option if you’re expecting but still want to get away for a few days.
Spend your days strolling around the towns, visiting the curious attractions (the mini replica of Bourton-on-the-Water is a must) and eating local food at the friendly pubs and cafes.
4. Orlando, Florida
Is sunshine a must? Orlando is the answer, and there’s more to this city than theme parks. You’ll be able to spend plenty of time enjoying the fresh air outdoors, whether you go on a scenic walking trail, a gentle boat ride on Lake Eola, or watch a film with a picnic in the park.
5. Salzburg, Austria
Salzburg is highly underrated — pay a visit before it gets the recognition it deserves and the crowds start building. It’s a really good place to start if you want your kids to experience a city break, since it’s small and therefore very easy to get around.
Activities you’ll all enjoy include wandering around the grounds of Schloss Hellbrunn and the Mirabell Gardens, exploring Old Town Salzburg (which is pedestrianised and therefore much safer for younger members of the family) and sitting in the beer gardens with a bite to eat. Many Austrian beer gardens are suitable places for the family to visit and have a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Just what you’re looking for!
